Sustainability

Sustainability is part of our creative process of production.

Since we started researching technical solutions to develop our products, we have paid special attention to the raw materials we use during the manufacturing process, in order to determine the lowest amount of waste and control the emissions to improve the environment.

Thanks to our company philosophy “Made locally”, all of our suppliers are located very close to us less than 60km from our facilities. It is a way to ensure the least possible pollution during each of our manufacturing processes and to take care of promoting the artisanal value throughout our entire production chain.

At the core of Missana’s philosophy lies a deep commitment to quality, embodying our mission to deliver enduring value to our clients. This commitment permeates every aspect of our value chain, reflecting our dedication to excellence. It shapes how we engage with our suppliers, fostering relationships built on trust, collaboration, and a spirit of innovation.

Our pursuit of innovation, research, and excellence serves for all activities at Missana. From the outset, these principles have been intertwined with our dedication to the foundational values of civil society: a profound respect for the environment and a steadfast adherence to ethical principles. The unwavering determination to achieve these objectives is evident in our corporate culture, influencing our interactions with institutions and partners throughout the entire production process.

The consistent and comprehensive implementation of our Quality Management Systems stands as the pivotal instrument to meet, as a minimum, all legal requirements and standards applicable to our export destinations. Missana’s products adhere to all relevant laws and regulations. Throughout the product life cycle, we systematically evaluate each category, considering health and safety impacts and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. Missana is accredited by ISO 9001, quality Management Systems.

Throughout the years, our continual pursuit of excellence and innovation, coupled with a sincere commitment to quality and sustainability, has prompted a heightened focus on sustainable products. Consequently, Missana has dedicated efforts to integrate circular economy design principles into our production processes, introducing products distinguished by their exceptional recyclability and disassembly principles.

FSC® CERTIFICATION

The certification granted by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) (License Code FSC-C142045) is a globally recognized accreditation from a non-profit international NGO. This certification system is dedicated to promoting responsible forest management and ensuring the traceability of associated products. It provides assurance that the product is crafted using raw materials sourced from well-managed wood, adhering to established principles of sustainable procurement and chain of custody certification.

In alignment with Missana’s philosophy, the FSC® certification signifies a commitment to ethical and sustainable practices in the production of wooden components. Commencing in 2020, Missana embarked on the creation of distinctive products exclusively utilizing FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) (License Code FSC-C142045) Mix certified wooden elements.

FOAM

At Missana, we recognize the critical importance of addressing sustainability in every aspect of our manufacturing process, including the essential component of foam. Our commitment to sustainability leads us to adopt responsible practices in the selection and use of materials, and foam, as a key element in many of our products, is no exception.

1. Responsible Foam Selection: We opt for high-quality foams that meet ecological and health standards. We strive to choose certified foams that minimize environmental impact and promote a healthy indoor environment.

2. Efficiency in Material Use: We implement technologies and processes that maximize efficiency in foam usage, reducing waste and ensuring each component is used optimally.

3. Ongoing Research: We commit to continuously exploring innovative and more sustainable alternatives in foam manufacturing. We collaborate with industry partners and experts to stay at the forefront of sustainable technologies in foam production.

4. Recyclability and Disassembly: We consider the recyclability and disassembly of products in the design of our furniture. We seek solutions that facilitate the separation and recycling of foam components at the end of their lifespan.

5. Environmental Certifications: We seek and favor foams with recognized environmental certifications, ensuring they meet rigorous sustainability standards and responsible resource management. Missaqna is accredited by ISO 14001 environmental Management Systems.

In addition, we are proud to announce that Missana is part of a pioneering research program called Biopur at the Aidimme Technological Park. This program has successfully achieved the degradation of polyurethane foams in lab tests using bacteria, highlighting our commitment to innovation and the pursuit of sustainable solutions in the field of foam materials. Through this initiative, we reaffirm our dedication to a sustainable and cutting-edge approach to foam manufacturing for our products.

SUPPLY CHAIN

At Missana, our commitment to the philosophy of “Made locally” goes beyond mere proximity; it is a profound pledge to champion the local and sustainable ethos in all facets of our operations. Our suppliers, strategically located within a radius of fewer than 60 kilometers from our facilities, embody this commitment. This intentional proximity serves as a cornerstone in our approach to minimize environmental impact, ensuring the least possible pollution throughout each stage of our manufacturing processes.

In embracing the “Made locally” philosophy, we not only prioritize environmental stewardship but also actively promote the intrinsic value of craftsmanship across our entire production chain. Our dedication to supporting local artisans is reflected in every piece we create, fostering a connection between our products and the skilled hands that bring them to life. By sourcing locally, we contribute to the preservation of traditional craftsmanship, acknowledging the unique skills and artistry within our community.

Furthermore, our commitment extends beyond the boundaries of production; we proudly belong to a local community that shares our values and aspirations. Through collaboration, support, and a shared commitment to sustainability, we contribute to the growth and prosperity of our local ecosystem. This interconnectedness forms the foundation of a broader community, one in which Missana actively participates, fostering relationships that go beyond business transactions.

In essence, the “Made locally” philosophy at Missana is a holistic commitment – not only to proximity and reduced environmental impact but also to the preservation of artisanal traditions, the empowerment of local craftsmen, and the nurturing of a thriving community.

PACKAGING

At Missana, we understand that sustainability is crucial at every step of our process, even in how we package and deliver our products. Our commitment to environmental responsibility is reflected in the conscious choice to use pallets and packaging boxes made from extra-strong and fully recyclable cardboard.

1. Extra-Sturdy and Resilient Cardboard: We opt for extra-strong cardboard for our pallets and packaging boxes, ensuring robust protection for our precious products. This choice not only guarantees the integrity of our creations during transportation but also extends the packaging’s lifespan, contributing to waste reduction.

2. Completely Recyclable: Sustainability is ingrained in every fiber of our packaging. Both pallets and packaging boxes are entirely recyclable, meaning that we not only protect our products but also minimize our environmental impact. By choosing recyclable materials, we are committed to circularity and responsible resource management.

3. Commitment to Waste Reduction: By using extra-sturdy and recyclable cardboard, we are not only providing sturdy and efficient packaging but also actively contributing to waste reduction. We encourage our customers to join us in this sustainable effort, promoting responsible waste management practices.

4. Continuous Innovation: Our commitment to sustainability doesn’t end here. We are continually exploring new innovations in materials and packaging techniques to further reduce our environmental impact. We consistently seek ways to improve and optimize our processes to minimize our ecological footprint.

At Missana, packaging is not just a means of delivery; it is a tangible manifestation of our commitment to a sustainable future. Through the careful choice of materials like extra-strong and recyclable cardboard, we are building a path towards a more environmentally friendly supply chain and encouraging others to join us on this journey towards sustainability. Moreover, and as part of this holistic approach, we encourage our end users to follow minimum environmental principles by sharing with them recycling tips for the product they will have in their possession.

What should I do with my piece of furniture when it reaches
the end of its life?

The first thing to consider is whether it can be given a second life, such as donating it to a non-profit organization or to someone
in need.

If you want to throw it away, you can contact your local town hall to inquire about furniture collection services, including where and when they provide this service and any associated costs.

Alternatively, you can take it to the nearest recycling center where they will ensure it is recycled in the most efficient way possible.

It is crucial not to abandon furniture in random places. Let’s avoid turning it into waste.
