Digital Craftsmanship & Missana

“Digital Craftsmanship” is the latest project developed by the Crafts Chair of the Universitat Politècnica de València, showcasing the digital activity of ten accredited Valencian workshops in an exhibition at the Craft Center of the Valencian Community, inaugurated during the European Days of Crafts. Curated by Professor Manuel Martínez Torán from the Drawing Department, the exhibition focuses on three main axes: the possibilities of digital creation, additive production using 3D printing as a reference, and subtractive processes by CNC, emphasizing the integration of technology as an extension of the artisan’s hand rather than a substitute resource.

Digital transformation poses a significant challenge for craftsmanship, with varying levels of technological maturity across different activities and training backgrounds, complicating the sector’s digital transition. Despite being a rare phenomenon, the showcased cases in the “Digital Craftsmanship” exhibition, some of which have over twenty years of technological integration, exemplify workshops adapting to digital changes at various levels, from experimental formats to fully digital business models. Through this exhibition and associated publications, spearheaded by the Crafts Chair, there’s an encouragement for artisans, as well as aspiring individuals, to invest, innovate, and create using these technologies, reflecting a generational shift and the evolving landscape of craftsmanship.

You can visit the exhibition from 04th April to 24th May at Centro de Artesanía de la Comunitat Valenciana.
